Dunbar Cave Day July 29
Please note that the time for the meeting is at 5:00 p.m. where we will discuss planning for Dunbar Cave Day on July 29. Then at 6:00 p.m., UT Anthropology Professor, Jan Simek will talk to us about prehistoric cave art. We will then go into the cave to view the prehistoric cave art that has been identified inside Dunbar Cave. This is a program that you won’t want to miss because not only is it rare opportunity to hear Dr. Simek (who is a world-renowned expert on the subject) but also to have him talk about the art-work found in Dunbar Cave. Bring a flashlight and a light jacket to wear.
On July 29, the new cave gate will be dedicated at 10:00 a.m. and the cave art will be announced. There will be tours into the cave to see the art work. Hopefully lots of our many Friends members will be there to help out. We will be calling you personally in a few days to ask what you can do to help out.
Around 2:00 p.m. we have two bands lined up to play music at the cave mouth, “Red River Breeze” that play Celtic music and “String Legacy” which plays bluegrass and old time string music. Bring your lawn chairs for this. They will play until 5:00 p.m.
Cave Gate Replacement
I’m sorry that I missed it because it sounds like it was an amazing thing to watch. It was a once in a life time experience for most. Ronnie Hunter deserves a special applause for all that he did during the 4 days.
Amy Wallace wrote a thank you and listed all the people that contributed and what they contributed. There are also pictures. The thank you and pictures are posted on the web site: www.dunbarcave.org for you to read.
Of course at the July 29 event, all the people that were involved will be congratulated so you don’t want to miss that.
