M,

NEWs
from
We
have been very busy with school groups and training. Adam “enjoyed” getting
sprayed in the face with pepper spray in a class – part of the
requirements to be able to carry and use it is that we have to experience w=
hat
it is like to be sprayed– good thing they don’t have the same
requirements for carrying a gun!
Most of our tree= s have recovered from the freezing temperatures in early April and are putting out= new leaves, but there will probably be a shortage of nuts and fruits in the fal= l as a lot of the flowers froze. <= o:p>
Some of the
birds we have seen include Blue-winged Teal, the following Warblers: Cape May,
Cerulean, Black-throated Green, Black and White, Hooded, Chestnut Sided,
Kentucky, Tennessee, Nashville, Yellow, Yellow-Throated, Yellow-rumped, Ovenbird, Northern Parul=
a,
Magnolia, Prairie; also Warbling Vireo, Yellow-throated Vireo, Summer and
Scarlet Tanager, Wood Thrush, Veery and Swainson’s Thrush, among others, including twel=
ve
male Rose-breasted Grosbeak and eight male Indigo Buntings at the feeders at
one time. Our Red-shouldered =
Hawks
are in the same area in which they nested last year. We now have at least three pair of
Purple Martins on the houses – they showed up around May 2.
Our new en= trance hallway to the AV room is complete. We have new steps from the parking lot to the Visitor Center, and Bob’s new office is completed – a lot of “new” goin= g on around here.
Net profit on Spring Fling was $610.00. Thanks to
Steve Hamilton for organizing the event and to all who worked so hard that
Saturday. Ronnie Hunter=
